Goldfinches are easy to photograph. They’re always at your feeders and quite tame. One time I was in a bag blind photographing the birds and one landed on my head! Too bad I couldn’t get a picture of that!!

Include some of your garden in the pictures if you can.


Find a nice twig to set up near your feeders. The birds are bound to land on it at some point.


Get as close as you can.


In wintertime, the goldfinches change color, but are still photogenic.

Yeah, they were all taken at my feeders. It’s a lot easier than going out in the fields trying to shoot the little guys.
