West Virginia is a destination state, which is why I’ve never been there … until last fall.  There don’t seem to be any highways running through it that I would ever take, so it’s a matter of deciding to go there.

My friends Steve and Jennifer suggested backpacking there at Dolly Sods wilderness area, so we decided to try it out during the autumn equinox.  It was very spiritual.  Dolly Sods is named after a fellow by the name of Johann Dahle and the early settlers used to call open fields “sods”, thus Dolly Sods.

The other members of our backpacking team are Tim and his pup Savannah.  We all decided it was one of the most beautiful hikes we’ve taken.
